    is a South African energy infrastructure project developing an open-access Liquefied Gas (LNG) import terminal with storage and regasification facilities at the Port of Ngqura in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

     

News

The 28th of May 2026 marks a significant project milestone with the Terminal Operator Agreement being signed between the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and Ukwanda LNG at a signing ceremony at the Port of Ngqura.

OUR PROJECT

Ukwanda LNG is focused on the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a phased LNG import terminal within the Port of Ngqura. Our model ensures flexible access for a range of LNG customers, without directly trading in gas.

South Africa is facing a complex energy challenge: the need to secure reliable power while reducing emissions and building a more resilient, inclusive economy. Natural gas, and LNG in particular, has a vital role to play.

The Project directly supports government’s vision for a more diversified energy mix, as set out in the latest iteration of the Government’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), and underpins initiatives such as the Gas Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (GASIPPPP).
